Summer’s over? Welcome fall!

I must stop aplogizing for my infrequent blog entries. So I won’t. Sorry. 🙂 Some of you may want to check me out on Facebook. I’m there more frequently.

So much has happened since the last entry.

Had a great spring, highlighted by a fun and very succesful turkey hunt with my friend James Smedley. I harvested two birds this year, a nice gobbler and jake. Also missed a gobbler at very close range. Epic fail. Had a good spring spec season and even found some new spots. No monsters but some very nice fish.

Lots of fishing this summer. Did several tournaments including the Geraldton Walleye Classic, Shebandowan Smallmouth Showdown and the Thunder Bay Angler Young Angler. Team Ellis actually won the Thunder Bay AYA and that allowed us to travel to the Kenora AYA championship. Both my son Austin Ellis and Landan Brochu had a great time and we caught some big fish on Lake of the Woods. Our guide and Lund pro-staff Roger Stearns was super knowledgeable and helped us catch 36 pounds of walleye for 6 fish! We ended up 5th. Teams Butts won with 46 pounds. An amazing result.

We’re almost out of August and that means hunting is looming. There is still time to catch some specs though. My Dad, oldest son Devin and I were out a few days ago and caught some beauties. This despite water temperatures in the mid 60s F. Very warm for this time of year. I’ll post a pic.

I drew a bull moose gun tag this year and have great plans to get my first moose in several years. But there is a moose bow hunt to come, and anything can happen.
